Deuteronomy Tales

Freezing feet
And an ominous voice
Reading from Deuteronomy 3:14r
Or 3:16?
I hardly register what it says
All I can think about
Are the lights of Las Vegas
Reflecting off the back window
Of the white Mercedes-BenzrnMy aunt drives
As soon as the tape holding Deuteronomy ends
She pushes another in
And this one contains more verses
That don't register in my brain
And all I care to know
Is the freezing degrees of the weather outside
As I head towards L.A.
Hoping against all hope that it's not as freezing
As the desert I've left behind
Accompanied by Deuteronomy tales
Of the Israelites
In the plains of Moab
