Happenings in the Land of 1000 Dances
Orale, Mi Gente! Southside Kali is still one of the most Brown and fun places on Earth to be!

The weather took a mellow turn as it balanced out nicely between hot & rain, as the City of Angels in the Land of 1000 Dances welcomed the spring season in Aztlan with some wonderful music, good people, happening stuff, and good times! Watcha...
The mid week saw the forming of the MARINE CORPS LEAGUE of the San Fernando Valley, a group of former Marines and Navy FMF Corpsmen dedicated to continue serving our Society by serving our Community with a unique pride as only seasoned Veterans can. For more info, see our earlier story this week here on the Communidad page...and thanks for all your support! SEMPER FI!
Chicano Express Radio's Crazy Chuy Hernandez (pictured) welcomed Tejano Music recording & performing legend Ruben Ramos to the studio for a well received show of music & interviews. After a brief hiatus, DJ Frankie Firme has also returned to Chicano Express Radio. Frankie is celebrating 2 years with Chicano Express Radio, and Crazy Chuy will soon be celebrating 30 years in radio altogether.
Friday kicked off in style as Becky Cordova and THE COMPANY Band once again rocked the San Fernando Valley at the Presidente Restaurant & Cantina in Northridge, SMOOTH TOUCH cruised into the San Gabriel Valley at CAMACHO's, SANGRIA took care of the big kids at the Whittier Radisson Hotel, and Steven's Steakhouse in East L.A. welcomed TIERRA and BALANCE back home to the 'hood. I was out and about doing the Grandpa thing that night con Grandma y grandkids, but the LatinoLA & East L.A. Revue road dogs gave up good reports of packed houses and full dance floors at all these gigs. Lots of beautiful Brown women everywhere!
Saturday was "da bomb", as I was once again priviliged and honored to serve as Host, Emcee, and House DJ at the Saddleback Inn in Norwalk, as the pride of Aztlan, SATISFACTION, took the stage and welcomed back Lady Eileen Benavides in a standing room only performance that seriously raised the room temperature, and kept it there all night. From my vantage point up in the DJ both, I could see that the ratio was 4 lovely ladies to every man...and everyman was on the dance floor! It was a party that satisfied everyone in the house!
SUAVE also packed 'em in at the Radisson Hotel, and THE COMPANY owned the SFV at the Presidente for a second straight night.
Sunday afternoon saw Aztlan still rocking, as BALANCE busted it wide open at The Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet for the many fans who couldn't get into their Friday night show with TIERRA. Sammy & the guys got down! Later on that night, THE BLUES STRAIGHT UP Band, aka the finest Chicano Blues band on the Planet, gave up a tight performance at Frank & Dean's in Pasadena.
KILLER WEEKEND!!!....que no?...and you wonder why we're known as the Land of 1000 Dances around the World? (...and this was just the good looking Brown people gigs!)
Throughout the weekend, RAMPART Record's Steven Chavez welcomed some special guests from San Jose who came all the way from Northern California to check out the Land of 1000 Dances...and did THEY have a good time! Artists Art & Kelly Galvan from the popular recording & performing group THE KOOL KATZ were in town at the invitation of Mr. Chavez and East L.A. Revue Radio's Chico Manqueros and had a good taste of 3 days worth of L.A. style, Chicano music and good times. Guitarist Art Galvan was heard to say to his lovely wife Kelly as they were leaving "I want to move down here".
This Friday, DOWN WITH 3 comes back to the Whittier Radisson by popular demand, and THE WEST SIDE CREW brings their heavy sounds in on Saturday. The Whittier Radisson will be expanding and opening up the restaurant section (which is usually closed during Friday & Saturday nite packed shows) to accomodate the ever growing crowds.

SATISFACTION invites you to try your luck as they pull in for Friday & Saturday night gigs at the Commerce Casino, where they always pack 'em in.
