Happenings in the Land of 1000 Dances
Just like expected, Aztlan jumped, jived, and harmonized over the Mother's Day weekend, with the Goddess of Ritmo giving up some of the finest weather so far this year. The City of Angels in the Land of 1000 Dances is truly blessed at this time of the year.

A joyous and heartfelt belated Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful Madres de Aztlan, and all those in heaven who have left us such wonderful memories.
And a big thank you to all you firefighters who put your lives on the line everyday, especially those that saved L.A.'s Griffith Park and Catalina Island from total char-broil status last week. Orale, GRACIAS!
...and now, onto la musica y todo! Watcha:
Starting off Friday night, ACE got things going at the Palms Resort Hotel Ballroom in the City of Industry as well over 600 guests packed the room in support of the L.A. County Sheriff Department's 999 FOR KIDS gala fundraiser. Gourmet dinner, a silent auction, drinks, dancing, and merrymaking were the order of the night, as the black tie affair crowd let their hair down and boogied to a good cause. A big THANK YOU to Sgt Ruben Gracia (not Garcia) of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department and his staff for all his hard work in putting it all together. For more info: www.999FORKIDS.org .
Not to be left out of the mix, SATISFACTION packed 'em in at the Whittier Radisson Hotel Lounge, where new singer JoAnna White hit the stage as lead vocalist. The guys also rocked the Saddleback Lounge Saturday & Sunday, leaving everybody a little more satisfied...like always!! For more info: www.satisfactionband.com .
Orange County's BARELA Band hit the Golden Shores of the Land of 1000 Dances as the East L.A. Revue road dogs report they simply rocked the Gente Brown at Billy Mondragon's LA CONGA BAR & GRILL in San Pedro. The upstairs nightclub is completed and stocked, and BARELA broke it in con ganas! Rounding out a fine Friday night , my Lady & I ended up at the Presidente Restaurant & Cantina in Northridge, where BECKY CORDOVA & THE COMPANY Band packed 'em in as usual, and I was still getting my boogie on after midnight! The band unleashed their new drummer, BROOK EMILIO, who let people know HE is town with good COMPANY!
As usual, Becky just stole hearts with her singing in the moonlight atmosphere of the San Fernando Valley. For more info: www.thecompanyband-tcb.com .
Saturday was another fine day, as the Goddess of Ritmo stood in a good mood and blessed us with sunshine and sweet breezes that kissed every back yard bar-b-que in south side Kali. Carne asada , burgers, & chicken were cooking everywhere, in every 'hood I cruised through!
The LatinoLA road dogs took to the highways and reported that the WISEGUYS made a stop at Monterey Park's PAUL'S KITCHEN on Atlantic Boulevard, and made a serious impression with their big band~pachuco rock sound. These guys you will be hearing about more! For more info, check out their website at: www.mtbwiseguys.org
As a follow up for the homies up in northern Aztlan, some long driving LatinoLA road dogs report PEPE MARQUEZ made a guest appearance with SHALANDA & A TOUCH OF SOUL up in Lompoc and rocked 'em till their feet hurt! Inside sources tell us Pepe is re-uniting his legendary band of the Kali coast THE FLASHBACKS, and heading back to their old stomping grounds, the annual Avocado Festival in Carpinteria by popular demand. I caught their act a couple of years ago, and over 6,000 fans couldn't be wrong in demanding them back! I will be back there this year! For more info: www.pepemarquez.com.
