News from the Brown Side of Town - 6.1.07

?íOrale, Mi Gente!...the Land of 1000 Dances continues to rock & roll, with Brown in our soul...peace, love and carnalismo being our ultimate goal!

I'm glad to announce that the haters, posers, and "used to be's" are losing their battle with the good Gente de Aztlan.

...more on that later...

First & foremost, happy belated Memorial Day to all the Veteranos, and currently serving men & women in U.S. Armed Forces uniform, and all of our families combined, as we shed a tear of THANK YOU for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our Country in lands far, far away.

...the loss will NEVER be in vain! Freedom is never free, and we thank those who have paid the cost...and those who continue to wear the uniform with pride. And for those who knock them or any veteran...you're weak, baby!

Orale! On with the music. Watcha:

The San Fernando Valley's finest, THE COMPANY BAND, featuring the "Diamond of the Valley" Ms Becky Cordova, come back to The Land of 1000 Dances by popular demand as they land in Norwalk at the Saddleback Inn on Friday, June 1st, for a one night stand. Come on out and party with Cuzzin' Judy this Friday at the Saddleback Inn. For more info, call Judith Bustamante at 562-868-0991. ~ "Where the good times roll"

The TEMPTATIONS, THE MARVELETTES, and THE TEMPREES rocked a full house on the Eastside at the Montebello Inn this past Memorial Day Sunday, courtesy of Cory Silva & Midnight Productions. I was there in the audience, along with PACHUCO CAR CLUB's Bennie Najar and about 200 other fortunate good Gente, as they brought it back, and kept it alive in style! One of the better shows I've been to this summer. For more info on some fine classic shows coming up: www.midnightproductions2.com or call 626-806-2379.

Bringing the hiatus of fine Chicano Music at CAMACHO's in the City of Industry to a welcome end, MIDNITES MOON announces their first CD release party at CAMACHO's on Friday, June 22nd, starting at 8pm. This is gonna be a hot one, too! A new promoter is being sought, and things will be getting better soon. Until then, watcha:

MIDNITES MOON, comprised of the original and founding members of East L.A.'s THEE MIDNITERS, (responsible for the success of their 1st and greatest album WHITTIER BOULEVARD and writers of the famous song by the same name) Benny Lopez (original bass player) and George Salazar (original drummer) join with JAGUARS member Tony "Beaver" Carroll, AMBERTONES lead singer Al Anaya, TIERRA's Victor Cisneros, and THE LITTLE HEARTBREAKER's Eddie Rodriguez to put a new twist on the old sounds, and it sounds ever so good on their first CD "A new moon is ryzing"! June 22nd is their first public appearance. (available at your record store or by e-mailing beeffillet@aol.com )

East L.A. Revue Radio's FRANKIE FIRME will be your host & MC for this memorable event, so make plans to come out to CAMACHO's for a fine evening of live music & dancing, courtesy of MIDNITES MOON. Dinner available. For tickets & info, call 626-806-6314 .

On another good note, East L.A. Revue Radio's Steven Chavez and Chico Manqueros have kept their word, and announce the arrival of San Jose's THE KOOL KATZ Band in style, to the Land of 1000 Dances the weekend of July 13th, 14th, and 15th. (www.TheKoolKatzBand.com)

A private reception and "Welcome to L.A. " party is planned for the KOOL KATZ on Friday July 13th. For more info: stevenchavez68@hotmail.com or 951-897-7705.

The KOOL KATZ then hit L.A.'s popular Whittier Radisson Hotel & Lounge on Saturday, July 14th, performing for a night of hot music and dancing at one of L.A.'s hottest spots.
For more info: www.jegrp.com or call 626-488-3344. The Radisson is really happening! A big GRACIAS to Mr. Peter Jaramillo for his support, and love of the Gente Brown.

As if that wasn't enough for the KATZ, one of East L.A.'s "Bad Boyz of Chicano Oldies", singer/promoter/producer CORY SILVA has given the KOOL KATZ the nod to open up for Midnight Production's 60's & 70's MOTOWN REVUE & CHICANO MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA at the A MI HACIENDA RESTAURANT & CANTINA in Pico Rivera Sunday, July 15th, featuring (check THIS OUT!!!) :

and introducing Ms SARINA SILVA ~

Talk about a show and a hellava way to say "Welcome to the Land of 1000 Dances" to the KOOL KATZ, verdad? (Lucky Katz!) Your co hosts & MC's for this one will be East L.A. Revue Radio's FRANKIE FIRME and CHICO MANQUEROS, 2 of Aztlan's finest.
For more info: 626-806-2379, or www.midnightproductions2.com, and of course, stevenchavez68@hotmail.com or 951-653-7777.

Two of L.A.'s sizzlers, The SATISFACTION Band, and THE COMPANY Band took a well deserved weekend off, but they'll be back on stage soon. For more info: www.satisfactionband.com and www.thecompanyband-tcb.com .

In response to the many rumors, singer PEPE MARQUEZ, the "Soul Man of Santa Barbara", did not win the lottery and run off with his Lady Yolanda to Tahiti. In fact, very good sources reveal that Pepe has been performing up north regularly, and has reassembled the California coastal kings of soul music, THE FLASHBACKS, and has plans to appear with them at this year's Avocado and Flower Festivals up north, as well as back in his new home in L.A. Sources also reveal that Pepe has joined forces with "Conga Ray" Ybarra and members of the SOUL PURSUIT Band to give him an extra edge down here in the Land of 1000 Dances, and some future performances are expected. Right on, Pepe! NEVER let the music die!

Support for George Lopez is growing...more news to come! We haven't lost yet! A big thanks to brother Al Carlos Hernandez for awakening the Gente Brown.

Check out the comedy camaradas at www.rudymoreno.com. (Not everything is controversial, but why not push the edge?)

The finest Chicano Music is heard 24/7 on www.eastLArevue.com & www.ChicanoExpress.com . We wish brother DJ Crazy Chuy Hernandez a speedy recovery from a recent auto accident.
E-mail well wishes to : CrazyChuy@ChicanoExpress.com

Texas recording star Johnny Hernandez, brother of Little Joe Hernandez (of LITLLE JOE & THE LATINNAIRES fame) has just come out with a new Blues, Oldies, and Latin Soul CD, just released ou of Texas. More info coming.

As always, the word of Aztlan is heard on LatinoLA.com, where it's always "A BROWN thing, baby!". Check out our calendar page! Remember, if it ain't here...it probably ain't happening!

...and now...in a closing note to all you haters, posers, amatuers, wannabe's, and usetabe's: you can't beat us, face it, but you're welcome to join us, no ay pedo. If you haven't the heart to join us, at least don't knock us como un chillona in public...your envy and badmouthing only gives us more exposure from your detractors and former fans (...and their numbers are growing as they find you out..sorry!), and makes us ALL look bad at your expense. You ain't doing yourself or Chicano Music de Aztlan ANY good, so grow up, and knock off the petty jealousy trip, know what I mean...Carnales?!

(or move to another state if you'e so unhappy with my people!)

...and we are all watching you !

Pues orale! Ay te watcho, from the Land of 1000 Dances,

Frankie Firme
