For a third consecutive year Agustin Lara's music will be revived at the Ford Theatre in Hollywood on SUNDAY JULY 8, 2007.
Agustin Lara is the composer of GRANADA, SOLAMENTE UNA VEZ, FAROLITO, NOCHE DE RONDA, MADRID and hundreds of others. Many people believe that Consuelo Velzquez' BESAME MUCHO is the most performed and recorded Mexican song ever. But others are convinced that it is Agustin Lara's GRANADA.
This composer was born in Mexico City but he told the world that his birthplace was Veracruz. He wrote several songs praising the beauty of its land and the passion of its people.
Among the most popular are VERACRUZ, NOCHE CRIOLLA, CASITA BLANCA, LA CUMBANCHA and others.
He was moved and inspired by Spain and he dedicated songs to the cities of that country.
Javier Solis, Placido Domingo, and several other tenor and baritones have recorded MURCIA, VALENCIA, MADRID, and Paso-Dobles such as ARMILLITA, CUERDAS DE MI GUITARRA, CLAVEL SEVILLANO and SILVERIO PEREZ among others.
Lara was hired by the newly established radio station XEW in Mexio City in the 30's, where he performed and presented his new songs in the air. He played the piano, conducted his own band, accompanied other singers, recited and sang his love and passionate songs.
The Third "Homenaje al Flaco de Oro" is produced by Dr. Raul Ruiz' Star Entertainment and Education Group.
Part of the proceeds are given to Hispanic students attending Cal State Northridge as scholarships. Jaime Jaimes and his band will accompany Gabriela Crowe, Silvia Flores, Belinda, Carlos Torres and from Mexico City the acclaimed tenor Mauro Calderon. In addition, guitar virtuoso Luis del Angel will perform solo and accompany the sweet voice of Victoria Gomez.
