Man?í are the first Latin act to sell out four consecutive evenings at the Staples Center (capacity 20,000) in Los Angeles. Sabor Latino was in the HOUSE!
The feat that Man?í accomplished from September 20 to September 24 has only been matched by Neil Diamond.
This show was HUGE! The audience sang along with every song played, some of which were: "Labios Compartidos," "Coraz??n Espinado," "Bendita Tu Luz," "Huele a Tristeza," "Mariposa Traicionera" and "Eres Mi Religi??n." They also played songs that I'm sure you'd recognize from your 1999 Man?í: MTV Unplugged CD ;o), like "Rayando el Sol," "Vivir sin Aire" and "Te Solte la Rienda." It seemed as though I was the only person in the venue who didn't know every word to every song.
One audience member - the object of envy for every other woman in the venue - was invited to sit onstage while lead singer Fher Olvera and guitarist Sergio Vallin serenaded her. She was the perfect person to be up there - she knew each song verbatim.
Something I wasn't expecting to witness: a drum solo quickly morphing into an Olympic event. The Latino Energizer Bunny, Alex Gonz?ílez, performed an amazing drum solo that left the audience exhausted from just witnessing it. In the middle of this "event," a Corona bucket was lowered from the ceiling so he could pause for a "refreshment" and a toast with the audience.
And of course, what would a rock concert be without undergarments thrown onstage? As the show was wrapping up, some woman threw her brown Victoria's Secret bra (those suckers are expensive!) onstage and the shy bassist, Juan Diego Calleros, wore this lovely article of clothing as a hat after Fher gently placed it on his head.
As the show wrapped up, the chanting began. "Una m?ís! Una m?ís!" shook the foundations of the Staples Center and Man?í did not disappoint. The guys came back for their epic encore performance, which left the audience satisfied enough to follow them for another 20 years.
