News from the Brown Side of Town

Orale, Mi Gente!

As the year begins to come to an end, we can all look back now and laugh at some of the pendejadas that have befallen the high & the mighty in L.A., shake our heads, smile, and simply say :

...se vale!...let's have some turkey and tamales, and play that funky music, Brown guys!

...ay viene 2008! I'm tired of scandals, catastrophes, and bad news already, know what I mean?

I mean, what else can you say? While funny dumb stuff was happening, our brave guys & gals serving in uniform over in Iraq & Afghanistan have had it worse than all of us all year...and here we sit, in front of our computers, reading this piece in the comfort and safety of the finest country on Earth because of their sacrifice...can't complain about too much now, can we?

I fear no rocket attacks, snipers, roadside bombs, or suicide bombers when I trip over to Starbucks, Target, or down to Olvera Street, do you? Orale! Happy shopping, pues!

Despite some serious personal setbacks, 2007 was a great year for Chicano music and Frankie Firme, "The Al Capone of the microphone and the Hitman of West Coast Chicano Soul". Watcha:

The LAND OF 1000 DANCES drew interest from around the World, as the many talented artists de Aztlan worked hard to maintain L.A.'s & Southern Califas' well earned title as the " Entertainment Capital of the World"!

Artists & bands came from all over the World just to jam in L.A. this year.

Beginning in January, after hosting a killer New Year's Eve Concert Show with The COMPANY Band, and Lady LESLIE PAULA & her Latin Soul Band at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Valencia, California, Frankie Firme joined forces with Steven & Janie Chavez, Eric "Chico" Manqueros, and Jesus "Crazy Chuy" Hernandez, and the East L.A. Revue Internet Radio Jukebox was launched (www.eastLArevue.com )...now heard around the World 24 hours a day to rave revues, and by a large and ever growing world wide listening audience.

It has become one of the most listened to Internet radio stations on the world wide web, and Frankie's brand of Chicano cruising Oldies but Goodies & "Eastside Sounds" has picked up listeners from as far away as Europe, Japan, and New Zealand!

RAMPART record's release of "Frankie Firme presents 16 rare & Golden Treasures from the vaults of RAMPART Records" in April of this year is into it's 3rd pressing. This CD is still available at www.CDBaby.com , or by e-mailing stevenchavez68@hotmail.com. One of the most popular music CD's this year!

Frankie's 2007 public appearances have included the Annual Oxnard Salsa Festival, the Cinco de Mayo/KOOL KATZ birthday jam in Santa Clara, the PEPE MARQUEZ & the FLASHBACKS reunion concert in Carpinteria, Cory Silva's TRIBUTE TO THE LEGENDS OF the 60's & 70's concert featuring the TEMPTATIONS in Pico Rivera, the MIDNITE's MOON CD release party at CAMACHO's in the City of Industry, the Summer Jam kickoff concert at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena, Lowrider Friday Nights with the PACHUCO Car Club in San Fernando, the W.A.V.E. fundraiser concert with comedian GILBERT ESQUIVEL and the ANTHONY PRIETO Band in Mission Hills, and most recently, the Steven Chavez/Bennie Najar presentation of "A MUSICAL EVENING WITH JOE BATAAN", with special guests, San Jose's KOOL KATZ, at the luxurious Radisson Hotel Grand Ballroom in Whittier....all of them solid parties and described in detail here on LatinoLA!

Frankie continues writing in the Arts & Entertainment, and other pages, of LatinoLA (www.latinoLA.com), the largest and most popular Latino Web magazine on the West Coast.
