This event is a 3-day National Conference which brings together the biggest and brightest Latino filmmakers and executives to examine the current trends Pan-Latino cinema is having on film, television and on-line entertainment through panels, key note speeches and case studies.

Conference Highlights: SOUTH OF THE BORDER. The WGA will sponsor a case study of the live-action film, SOUTH OF THE BORDER. Edward James Olmos and Cheech Marin are confirmed as speakers to lead a discussion on the upcoming Disney film to be released September 2008. The film stars Drew Barrymore who lends her voice as Chloe, along with the vocal talents of Andy Garcia, Salma Hayek, Edward James Olmos, Cheech Marin and George Lopez. SOUTH OF THE BORDER chronicles the adventures of a pampered Beverly Hills chihuahua named Chloe (Barrymore) accustomed to riding in a designer handbag. While on vacation in Mexico, she gets lost and must rely on her friends to help her get back home.

Latinos on Directing: How to Break In. Latino director Rodrigo Garcia, most noted for his work on Big Love, Six Feet Under and Carnivale, will speak to aspiring Latino directors trying to break into the industry. Rodrigo is set to direct the upcoming film DIEGO ASCENDING written by Ligiah Villalobos, a remake of the Israeli film Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi. Salma Hayek is producing this drama based on a Latino teenager who must choose between pursuing his academic interests or taking care of his family.

SLEEP DEALER - Alex Rivera, winner of the Sundance 2008 Alfred P. Sloan Prize for outstanding film focusing on science or technology will lead a case study on his long awaited directorial debut, SLEEP DEALER. Set in the near future, the film is science fiction, but it's regarding immigration and the disparity of wealth between the northern parts of the globe and the poorer south. The theme of immigration has always been central to Rivera's work, using immigrant stories as windows into urgent realities: global economics, labor politics, border policy, identity, nostalgia, and the search for 'home.'
