Residents of the revitalized downtown San Pedro area don't need to jump on the 110 to Hollywood to catch a decent stand up comedy show anymore. Established comedian Cisco, along with club owner Billy Mondragon, of the musical groups Tierra and DW3, are launching regular weekly comedy nights this month at La Conga Nightclub at 465 W. 7th Street in the Heart of Downtown San Pedro.
"We are bringing something to an area of Los Angeles that doesn't have much in the way of comedy entertainment" says Cisco. "We want to bring it to the many people of San Pedro so they do not have to hop on the freeway and make a long drive to catch a quality act. Plus, the show we bring is diverse, with top performers from every ethnic background, which fits the melting pot that is not only San Pedro, but the entire South Bay."
Dubbed "The Funny Lounge" because of the intimate and musical atmosphere the club presents, Cisco ran a trial run at the venue in January to make sure it was a decent fit and was pleased with the location.
"Each week we will have a well-known headliner," Cisco stated. "We anticipate we will have comics who have appeared on Def Comedy Jam, Que Locos, Comedy Central and even The Tonight Show. We are at an advantage when it comes to bringing in these performers, since many of them live in Los Angeles."
The Funny Lounge celebrates its official opening at La Conga on Thursday, February 21, 2008. For more information please go to www.thefunnylounge.com or call 310-833-3388.
