Awards grant to new media director

PLIE Launches Website

Professional Latinos In Entertainment (PLIE), a non-profit organization, launches official website at www.prolatinos.org. The website is used as a tool for emerging Latino talent to educate themselves, network, and find resources for their projects from concept to completion. They offer a variety of workshops, labs, and networking events.

The 2008 recipient of The Emerging New Media Director Award is Shawna Baca (pictured). Anheuser-Busch Presented PLIE's Film Discovery Program with a grant to assist Baca with the resources to produce and direct a 30 second commercial spec for Anheuser- Busch. The commercial spec titled 'Some Like It Light,' features the diversity of Latin talent which include Jesse Garcia, (Quinceanera, La Misma Luna) and Andrew Keegan, (7th Heaven).

The spec-commercial will serve as a valuable sample of work needed to succeed in the field of commercial and non-commercial directing. Anheuser Busch and PLIE have committed to continue to support the director by providing educational and career opportunities after the initial project is completed. The piece will be aired on www.budlatino.com including interviews and behind the scenes footage and can currently be viewed on PLIE's website.

Professional Latinos In Entertainment (PLIE) is a 501c (3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, informing, and acknowledging Latinos in entertainment and promoting diversity within the community through education and media. PLIE's mission is to guide talented and emerging Latinos into becoming professionals in entertainment, arts, and media. PLIE also creates the necessary bridge between talented Latinos and Hollywood by making real connections for Latinos. PLIE has three main branches of support; Education, Outreach, and the Filmmaker Discovery Program. Through workshops, informative panels, industry mixers, mentorship, and the Filmmaker Discovery Program, diverse artists are given the platform to hone valuable skills set and access to otherwise hard to reach Hollywood professionals - all essential to their education and career success.

Professional Latinos In Entertainment's (PLIE) filmmaking initiative: "The Filmmaker Discovery Program" is designed to discover an up-and coming filmmaker's from a diverse background and provide support in realizing their dream of becoming an expressive and successful filmmaker. There are two awards under the program, Emerging New Media Director Award and Emerging Film Director Award.
