Club Rises to the Top

Get ready to step into the ?ŪDescarga! Summer Soir?ģe on July 12, 2008 at Echo, with acclaimed Resident DJ‘«÷s Sloe Poke, Bobby Soul, Mando Fever, Loslito and Mexican Dubwiser; plus special guest, Mentiritas live at midnight!

Join the DJ crew inside its Echo Park digs or under the stars in the DJ patio lounge for cocktails, classic and funky Latin sounds, live art by Graffiti Legend and Tattoo Artist, Duke and beautiful people. Please note, beginning July 12th, ?ŪDescarga! will be operating out of the Echo venue at 1822 Sunset Blvd. (Echoplex's sister venue).

The ?ŪDescarga! collective is also proud to share that its been named ‘«£Best Club Night‘«ō in the June/July 2008 ‘«£Best of Latino L.A.‘«ō issue of Tu Ciudad Magazine. Friends, go pick up the latest issue in newsstands or sign up to get a free subscription to the magazine online! Special thanks as well to Jaime Gamboa, Michael Monta??ez and Laura Alvarez, for their continued interest and promotional support. Cheers amigos!

Mentiritas (pictured) is a musical project lead by Grammy Award Winning Musician, Wil-Dog Abers of Ozomatli, that combines cohorts (who happen to be some of L.A.‘«ˇs top session musicians) from bands such as Ozomatli, Beastie Boys, Cava and Plastilina Mosh, among many other noteworthy acts. In 2007, Abers (Bass), Walter Miranda (Keys), Fredo Ortiz (Timbales), Ulises Bella (Saxophone) and Anton Morales (Drums) combined their love for Latin music with humor and satire and thus, the Mentiritas project was born.

Mentiritas keeps the crowd on its feet from start to finish and pokes fun at 80‘«ˇs and 90‘«ˇs hits, the ‘«£boy band‘«ō experience and gaudy Mexican Regional fashions and sometimes over-the-top banda music. In January 2008, ?ŪDescarga! featured the band at its sold out 5th Anniversary Party at Echoplex. The band now includes the powerful vocals of Claudia ‘«£Cava‘«ō Tenorio and on July 12, 2008, the show will include special appearances by Herbert Siguenza and Ric Salinas of Culture Clash theatre group.

When the alternative salsa night began five years ago with DJ‘«÷s Dusk, Sloe Poke and Loslito, ?ŪDescarga! was about digging in the crates for the rarest salsa cuts and the funkiest Latin 60‘«÷s and 70‘«÷s sounds, in a club that catered to L.A.‘«ˇs indie underground music scene. Today, the venue has changed, but the spirit of the night beats strong. True to its mission, the event is the alternative to commercial salsa clubs and urban Latin nights and pays homage to the African/Indigenous/Latino connection, through classic and urban world beats.

Rotating Resident DJs Sloe Poke, Mando, Bobby Soul, Loslito, and Mexican Dubwiser spin classic salsa and cumbia, merengue, world, Latin hip hop, roots-reggae, reggaeton, mashups, Brazilian and Deep House grooves. The night is Executive Produced by Jennifer Cuevas (Jenerate Media) and Loslito (Walk Talkin‘«÷ Productions), in loving memory of DJ DUSK*.
