According to reports, Fat Joe recently challenged Daddy Yankee to a political debate on MTV Tr3s. Apparently Daddy Yankee turned down the idea because he is busy promoting his new movie "Talento de Barrio".

Perez Hilton was named Terra's Hispanic of the Year.

Ad pages in Hispanic magazines are down 10% this year as of August with ad dollars up 2.2%. Automotive ad pages are down 45% with automotive ad spending down 35.3%. Much of the decline is being attributed to the effects of gas prices on auto sales. Department stores, household supplies, and food products are among the categories that are up in ad spending this year.

New York crime analysis data shows that blacks and Hispanics comprise the most crime suspects and victims in the city, with 90% of people shot at by the NYPD being black or Hispanic. 23.4% of the 244 murder victims between January 1st and June 30th were Hispanic.

23 people died and at least 12 were injured during two prison riots in Tijuana last week.

Two men who attacked Boston radio host Pelagio De La Cruz have been arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. De La Cruz was hit repeatedly with a baseball bat on September 14th and is currently in critical condition.

New data from the Pew Hispanic Center shows that 8% of native-born U.S. Citizens and 10% of immigrants have been stopped and questioned about their immigration status by police or other authorities in the past year.

A painting by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez sold for $255,000 at an auction. The painting, which Chavez painted while serving a two-year sentence for a failed coup in 1992, is called "The Yare Moon" and depicts a full moon through a jail cell window with the message "The mill of the gods grinds slowly".

A British tour group traveling through Pumaorcco, Peru was held captive by a group of local villagers wielding axes, rocks and branches. The tourists were mistaken for representatives from a mining company thought to be arriving to steal the areas natural resources. The villagers eventually released the tour group and no one was injured during the incident.

Honduran-born designer Merlin Castell will appear on Oxygen Network's "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency" on September 30th.

GolTV premiered two new 30-minute series to its program lineup. "Football's Hidden Story" is a 26-episode series capturing stories from around the world of people's lives being positively impacted by soccer and "Soccer Cam" combines user-generated videos of soccer highlights and outtakes.

Live Nation and Time 4 Fun have added a fourth Buenos Aires show at River Plate Stadium on Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" tour after selling out 3 three shows. The first show sold 70,000 tickets within 3 hours and one day or pre-sale to Citibank customers.

Mexican officials in Michoacan are offering police officers and prison guards special deals on housing and financing mortgages as part of the state's efforts to combat corruption.

ESPN Films will premiere "JC Chavez" on September 27th. The film, Diego Luna's directorial debut about boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, will air on ESPN Deportes in Spanish and on ESPN Classic in Spanish with English subtitles. ESPN Home Entertainment will release the DVD on September 30th.

According to new census data, New York's four largest Hispanic populations are Puerto Ricans (770,100), Dominicans (587,330), Mexicans (260,620) and Ecuadoreans (162,900).

Actress and breast cancer survivor Adamari Lopez has signed on as the spokesperson for Yoplait's Save Lids to Save Lives initative aimed at U.S. Hispanics.

Mun2 and NBCU will launch "The Call Back" in June 2009, a reality series where aspiring young Latino actors will compete for a co-star role on an NBC Universal show, with 30 finalists attending the mun2 acting academy.
