Food, Faith and Miracles

From Lightning Media comes the hilarious comedy "Tortilla Heaven," a story of faith, love, family and redemption, set in an eccentric New Mexico town which is turned upside down when the face of Jesus Christ appears on a tortilla! After a successful theatrical release throughout the U.S. in 2007, the film is coming to DVD on October 14, 2008.

"Tortilla Heaven" was nominated for a 2008 ALMA Award for Outstanding Performance of a Lead Latino/A Cast in a Motion Picture. Director Judy Dumontet won the NALIP Estela "Rising Star" Award, the film won the Xican Indie award in Denver, Colorado and Christopher Lennertz won an Indie Film Award for Best score. Also, Irene Bedard won "Best Actress" with First Americans in the Arts (FAITA) for her portrayal as "Liberata". The film is in English with selected Spanish subtitles and features a stellar cast with the likes of George Lopez, Ana Ortiz, Miguel Sandoval, Olivia Hussey, Lupe Ontiveros, Elpidia Carrillo, Jos?® Z????iga, Alexis Cruz, Elaine Miles ("Northern Exposure") and many others.

Written by Judy Hecht Dumontet and Julius Robison and Directed by Dumontet, "Tortilla Heaven" is the name of Isidor's restaurant in the tiny town of Falfurrias, New Mexico. Isidor is passionate about his cooking and although his enchiladas are the best in the west, Isidor bemoans his poverty and inability to build his restaurant's clientele. Isidor has given up on God. One Sunday, while everyone in town is at church praying, Isidor manages to cook the perfect tortilla and, slowly, while no one's looking, the image of Jesus Christ appears on it!

The discovery takes the town by storm as the people become cash-mad citizens, each claiming a piece of the Tortilla in order to make money from it. The action reaches a fever pitch as a farmer, a priest, an ambitious policeman, a neurotic nudist as well as Isidor and his family, are swept up in a whirlwind of conflict as they all fight to cash in on their "miracle."
