The Voice of the People

With a musical career that boasts several #1 hits, countless sold-out shows throughout the continent and millions of albums sold worldwide, Pepe Aguilar announced today his new partnership with Univision Records. The talented singer/producer signed a multi-year recording contract with Univision Records for the world.

The son of two of Mexico?s most legendary performing artists, Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre, Pepe is without doubt one of the finest and most complete performers in the ?Ranchera? genre, and is considered by many to be Mexico?s top brass charro (Mexican Cowboy), singer, actor and producer; a gifted recording artist who has added his unique style to the genre and has held uninterrupted successful number-one-hits on international radio.

Aguilar represents the voice of the people and a new generation of Mexican music followers that transcends socio-economic boundaries and generational confines; for young and old, rich and poor have identified with this performer?s message of love, hope and romance, which has become the trademark of his music. Part of this success can also be attributed to his production credits for singers such as Vicky Carr, Edith M?rquez, Guadalupe Pineda, Antonio Aguilar and Antonio Aguilar Jr., which have brought him recognition not only from the entertainment industry?s critics, but the general public alike.

His vast discography, which spans over 12 years of unparalleled success, is a testament to his innovative and precarious spirit, and an unusual estrangement from musical prejudices, as he has ventured effortlessly from Banda to Mariachi, and garnered some of the industries most prestigious awards in both Mexico and the U.S.

The list of accolades bestowed upon him include a Grammy for Best Regional-Mexican Album, seven Furia Musical Awards, eight Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards and a Billboard Award for Best Hot Latin Track of the Year for the song ?Por Mujeres Como T?,? which remained in the top 10 for 52 weeks as the most requested song of the year.

?Becoming part of this new family is like a breath of fresh air and a new beginning for me. Taking Regional Mexican music to new heights and new audiences continues to be my top priority. I am very excited about this new opportunity and remain committed to making the best Regional Mexican music in the world,? stated Aguilar.

With the added responsibility of being part of one of Mexico?s finest and most respected musical families, and one of the country?s highest-regarded pedigrees in tradition and artistic accomplishments, Aguilar is more committed than ever to his music and has been working arduously to establish an enviable track record with hits such as Por Mujeres Como T?, Perd?name, Coraz?n Est?ril, Ya Vete, and Me Vas a Extra?ar, to name a few.

?Having Pepe Aguilar amongst the Univision Music Group Family of artists is a real honor and I look forward to personally working with him for many years to come. Pepe is by far one of Regional Mexican/pop music?s finest and most talented performers and undoubtedly will continue to be a leader in the universe of Latin music,? said Jose Behar, president & CEO for Univision Music Group.

And so, it is this triumphant track record that makes Pepe Aguilar the most important singer and producer of Mexico?s contemporary Ranchera genre, one whose artistic and innovative proposition promises to continue flourishing for many years to come.

Pepe Aguilar?s debut album on Univision Records is tentatively scheduled for a Spring 2003 release.
