Colombian Cinema Showcase


The Colombian Consulate General in Los Angeles and Agora Sessions, proudly present their first edition of "The Colombian Cinema Showcase" to be held from Friday, November 21, through Tuesday, November 25th, 2008, at the renowned Laemmle Theater's Music Hall located at 9036 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90211.

The admission is free to all screenings, and open to the public in a "first come, first serve" basis. All films will be presented in Spanish with English subtitles.

The opening reception for the event will take place on Thursday, November 20th at The Museum of Latin American Art (Molaa) located in Long Beach, CA, in which The Colombian movie "El Carro" directed by Luis Orjuela will be screened. This is a private event to be attended only by invitation.

This evening's program will also include a live on stage performance by the local Colombian musical group Palenke Soultribe, who recently were honored with the Best Dance Electronic Song award at the Independent Music Awards celebrated in New Jersey, NJ.

The Colombian Cinema Showcase will feature more than fifteen productions created by some of the best and brightest Colombian filmmakers including feature films, shorts, music and much more. This event presents as a special feature, the internationally multiawarded film "Mar?a llena eres de gracia" (2004), directed by Joshua Marston.

Maria's story is impressively acted by Colombian-born Catalina Sandino Moreno who was named Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival, and nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in the 77th Academy Awards. She is one of three Hispanic actresses to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.

The Colombian Consulate General in Los Angeles and the Colombian Department of Exterior Relations as part of their multiple efforts of the national government to diffuse, promote, and support Colombian's booming film industry found through the Colombian Cinema Showcase the right fit and ideal platform to foment the great potential the film industry offers as a sector investment in Colombia. These entities also support this event obviously moved by the full conviction and belief in the immense capabilities and potential of Colombian creative artists.

The Colombian Cinema Showcase is an international promotional vehicle created to serve Colombian filmmakers living in Colombia and abroad to expose their work in different latitudes around the world. This is an event entirely produced by Colombians, who are passionate about cinema, arts and music and believe that through film, diverse communities can be fully integrated.

The screening selection of the event is comprised by classic films as well as the most recent productions of Colombian cinematography. Films to be screened include:
