Attorney Gilbert Moret to chair Bilingual Foundation of the Arts, joined by nine new board members

BFA's New Leadership


Bilingual Foundation of the Arts (BFA) is proud to announce a great new era with the election of a new Board Chair and welcomes nine new board members to its Board of Trustees and Advisory Board. The Foundation was founded in 1973 and remains the only full-time professional bilingual theatre on the West Coast. Since 1984, BFA has been providing youth throughout Los Angeles with Theatre-in-Education programs.

The incoming Board Chair is Mr. Gilbert Moret, a respected attorney and sole remaining member of an East Los Angeles Law Firm that is distinguished by producing four California State Court Judges and one Federal Court Judge. Mr. Moret received his Juris Doctor degree from USC in 1965. He has over 43 years of experience in the general practice of law. He has served as President of East L.A. Jaycees, Chairman of East L.A. State Service Center, Chairman and Ambassador for Hispanics for Los Angeles Opera, Chairman of the Narcotics Prevention Project, and Founding Chairman of the Alianza de los Amigos Whittier College, and Founding President of the East Los Angeles Big Brothers. Mr. Moret has combined his busy law practice with a career as a singer and performer and, most recently, as an actor with BFA.

Mr. Moret stated, "I am extremely honored to have been selected the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts, and I accept the trust and responsibilities that the Board and the founders have bestowed on me, especially in the challenging times that lie ahead. Of preeminent importance is to preserve and strengthen the fundamental mission of the organization to promote and maintain the culture and art of theatre in Spanish in Los Angeles. I pledge to do this with the advice, assistance, and support of the Board of Trustees, the Advisory Board, and staff, and with the invaluable guidance and wisdom of the founders.

Mr. Moret has received numerous awards and recognition for his probono legal work and fundraising efforts for many non-profit organizations, including the County of Los Angeles, City of Los Angeles, East Los Angeles Task Force, The Hispanic Women's Council, Buenanueva Foundation, Los Abuelitos International, The Federation of Charros, USA and the Greater East L.A. Chamber of Commerce. He was also the recipient of the prestigious "Placido Domingo Award" presented by Hispanic's for Los Angeles Opera. Moret brings years of experience and vision to the exciting future of Bilingual Foundatioin of the Arts.

The new members for the Bilingual Foundationof the Arts (BFA) Board of Trustees : Ms. Irma Ayala, Mr. Lou Herrera, Mr. German Jeronimo, Mr. Orlando Mongalo, Ms. Lina Montalvo, Mr. Jose M. Platas, and Ms. Mari Carmen Salas. Advisory Board members include, Mr. Jose Angel Barajas, Robert J. Gomez, Esq., Dr. Herbert Miller, Mr. Orlando Ortega, and Mr. Fred Rodriguez.
