Hungry Woman in Paris

One month after moving to its new location, landmark bookstore Librer?¡a Mart?¡nez continues the re-opening festivities on Thursday, April 2nd with a book signing by critically-acclaimed author, Josefina Lopez. Best known for authoring the play and co-authoring the film Real Women Have Curves, Lopez will present her debut novel, "Hungry Woman in Paris." Latino Indy Pop group, Gardenia, will begin the evening with a special acoustic performance of their latest hits including, "No Vuelvas Mas." The evening culminates with a wine and cheese reception.

After the enormous success of "Real Women Have Curves," which is credited for launching the career of "Ugly Betty's" America Ferrera and which inspired women of all cultures to embrace their curvaceous figures, Josefina Lopez brings yet another unique tale of Latina heroism with her first novel - "Hungry Woman in Paris." In addition to reading an excerpt from the book, Josefina will also share experiences from her more than 20-year career as a writer, poet, performer, and activist. Included in her resume are many awards including the Gabriel Garcia Marquez Award and Humanitas Award for Screenwriting.

Don't miss an opportunity to hear one of today's preeminent Chicana writers this Thursday, April 2nd from 6:30 PM ÔÇô9:30 PM. "I'm excited," said Josefina "to once again return to Librer?¡a Mart?¡nez ÔÇô a place that always receives me with open arms and where I feel right at home." With Indy Pop sensation, Gardenia, kicking off the evening with a hypnotic collection of Spanish melodies, the night promises to be one of literary and musical delight.

The Josefina Lopez "Hungry Woman in Paris" book signing is another example of the extraordinary talent Librer?¡a Mart?¡nez attracts including having hosted an array of internationally acclaimed authors such as, Isable Allende, Carlos Fuentes, Edward James Olmos, Cheech Marin and Gloria Estefan. In its new location next door to the previous facility, Librer?¡a Mart?¡nez will continue to provide a home for top Latino talent while offering the best selection of Latino literature in both English and Spanish.
