Orale!! Mid-June in the Land of 1,000 Dances, and it's already hot!
Published on LatinoLA: June 16, 2009
The L.A. Lakers are NBA World Champions! Despite a couple of knuckleheads almost blowing the moment and embarrassing us all on national television by their wild and lame display of mentally disturbed "celebrating", 99.99% of all Gente from the City of Angels celebrated appropriately, and we're glad we continue to be a City of Champions‘«™even if our economy sucks right now‘«™
The price of gas continues to rise every other day, and NOBODY in the television media is asking or finding out why‘«™does this bother anybody else bedsides me?
The crying, back biting, and political back room manipulations continue out in the San Fernando Valley concerning a homeless Veteran's housing program proposed by a non-profit organization with a proven track record , that has a special interest group shamefully plotting veterans against veterans, embarrassing some American Legion members, and causing needless delays in services for our honored U.S. military veterans. For more info, e-mail USMCsgt7@aol.com and GET THE FACTS!
Thousands of Iranian protesters gathered in front of the Federal building in Los Angeles this past Sunday to protest the Presidential elections in Iran which they felt were rigged, and further denies them freedom & liberty they desire in their homeland‘«™excuse me? What do they expect us to do here in this country about that? Why are they protesting here and disturbing OUR peace? Didn't they turn on us, protest against us and our way of life, raise the price of oil, and then expel us from their country after taking American hostages back in 1979? Then, while they are now here & enjoying AMERICAN freedom, liberty, money, and some are getting a world class education that they can't even buy in their part of the world‘«™ they are protesting here, in front of average American citizens, in our front yard, in our faces? Why?
‘«™is this some form of warped gratitude & respect where they come from?...somebody please explain to them that we have OUR OWN problems here in OUR homeland right now, and we prefer to fly our own flag, thank you very much!
Anyways‘«™enough of that‘«™let's get on to some good news here in the Land of 1000 Dances, watcha:
The Inland Empire's LOUIE PARRA and the MAD LATINS made a smashing San Fernando Valley debut last Friday, as they entertained the SFV Marine Corps League and their guests at the most recent "Friday Night at the Legion" dance in Reseda. Word from the LatinoLA road dogs is that Cory Silva's GREEN TURTLE venue in Whittier is picking up steam, and rockin' the Gente hard . Last week saw Cory joining ROCKY PADILLA & NEW VOICES for some good old fashioned Chicano rock & soul with a packed dance floor, making it a good time, and DJ SMOOTH spinning the cuts in between. This Friday sees HANK CASTRO take the stage. For tickets & info: 626-409-1919 or e-mail: email@example.com.
This weekend saw over 2,000 people converge on South El Monte's Golfland as the East L.A. Chapter of the OLD MEMORIES Car Club held their 8th Annual Car Show, with over 20 car & bike clubs participating. A great family event, music was provided by DJ's Frankie Firme and the "Heartbreaker & dedication taker" himself, Mr. O.G. of the Lost Memories Radio Station. www.djchentemrog.com. It was a great display of peace, unity, and brotherhood as some of the most beautiful cars & bikes on the planet were on display.
Nothing like having a lot of friends & family in the Land of 1000 Dances, veteran East L.A. singer/musician WILLIE MONDRAGON can tell you , as over 600 people attended his 60th birthday bash at Whittier's RADISSON Hotel this past Friday, where his talented sons, Eric & Billy of DOWN WITH THREE , along with the BARELA band performed flawlessly to an excited crowd.
Happy Birthday Willie!

Beloved friends & family of Yvonne Nevarez of San Fernando will be inviting all others to help them celebrate her life, as they will be hosting 2 fundraising events to help offset funeral costs for Yvonne, who passed away recently after a courageous battle with bone cancer. Both dances, scheduled for June 19th and June 26th at the San Fernando American Legion Post 176, will feature the ever popular BAG OF TRICKS Band, a DJ, and raffles. If you haven't caught her yet, MADtv's Jill-Michelle Melean, aka JILLY, has become a well known Latina comedian & actress in the L.A. area and beyond. I caught her birthday show at the Hollywood Improv last week, along with some of her friends, and I haven't laughed that hard and that much in a long time. She also gives back to the community by being involved in a mentorship program benefiting teenaged girls. For info on future shows: www.jillyonline.com. You gotta check her out!
Father's Day and the first day of summer comes at you on June 21st. Be there‘«™and remember Dad.
