Here's hoping the Halloween month is treating you well so far, as we continue onward through the political fog and economic mayhem that makes livin' in the USA so hard for folks in Finland and on Mars to understand‘«™.?? Gotcha on THAT one, huh?
Ha! Here's some more‘«™
I voted for home-boy, but can SOMEBODY please tell me why President Obama won the $1.4 million dollar Nobel Peace prize award?...I mean, we're still at war, right ?...the American news media STILL doesn't give us regular updates on our guys, under orders from the Government, right?
...or did he just need the money to help with the bailout? hmmm....
Don't know where or how he got the feria, but did you hear that hate-talk radio guru Rush Limbaugh wants to buy an NFL Football team, the St Louis Rams? Despite being fired from ESPN for making racist remarks, and NONE of the NFL owners wanting him in their midst‘«™what was this dude thinking ?
Thinking back to all my personal negative experiences, and the horror stories of others, can you believe the gall of the L.A.P.D. in asking the public to remember "all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty by the law" when one of their own veteran LAPD officers and his son got busted for‘«™get this: child pornography?...tell THAT to the largest incarcerated population in the World here in Californi !...who was HE protecting & serving?
Hey! After a blistering summer, we finally got some rain in L.A.! ?ŪOrale!
‘«™and trip on this‘«™a well-known hospital in Los Angeles has been frying the scalps of possible stroke patients with CT Scan "tests", causing hair loss in 40% of them, for over 18 months until somebody finally complained‘«™.sheesh! Rogaine anyone?
Shades of L.A.'s Rocky Delgadillo! ‘«™the new "no talking on cell phone while driving" law went into effect this year, and a bunch of us have been busted and had to pay some fines for giving the new law a test‘«™.but hey, recently, the California first lady, Mrs Maria Shriver-Schwarzenegger was busted cruising and yakking in her SUV‘«™Arnold says there will be some "swift consequences" in the news‘«™then bam!... home-girl gets busted by a citizen again the next day, and posts it on the Internet‘«™
Anyways, enough of that! ‘«™Yuk! Yuk!...life in the Land of 1000 Dances‘«™never a dull moment! ....here's some GOOD stuff for a change, watcha :
The PHAT JAM for the ARTS at the Whittier Radisson Hotel was a cool success, with some good support and excellent entertainment on a Sunday night, and we thank you all who attended.
LatinoLA's Abelardo de la Pena Jr. and Frankie Firme were spotted on the dance floor tirando chancla with their ladies for a good cause. As expected, top dawg comedians Gilbert Esquivel, Cisco, and Joey Medina split some sides, but newcomers RC Miller, Tyman Shipp and Carlos Loma also opened some eyes. Musically, heavy hitters like Louie Parra & The Mad Latins Band
(with special guest Peter "2 Sticks O' Dynamite" Jaramillo, who got to sit in and jam), and the SUAVE Band were excellent as expected, but the story here was newcomers the Hindsight Band, who blew people away with their singing duets and heavy hitting Old School sound as they busted out in between the big boys , and made a lot of new fans.
Of course the grand ballroom was full of salseros as the Lucky 7 Mambo Band, Orquesta Son Mayor, Johnny Polanco, and Chino Espinosa put out some high powered energy for a dance-a-thon that lasted till closing. A great night, with some great stars, for a great cause. For future events, check out: www.jegrp.com.
Last Friday night saw George Salazar's 2nd Time Around Band kick it up for the Gente at the Norwalk Guesthouse, with Satisfaction's Chris "Lil' Santana" Reserva sitting in on guitar, and helping pack the dance floor. A nice sized crowd kept the action going till closing. Saturday, October 17th sees the 2nd Time Around Band performing a FREE concert at Rick's Drive~In on the corner of Main St and 2nd Ave in Alhambra starting at 7pm. See you there!
On a sad note, the Chicano Music World lost another brother in song as Nation of Aztlan's PETE PEREZ left this world's stage to join the best band up in heaven. Our most heartfelt condolences go out to the Perez family. In tribute, a benefit concert is planned for November 1st, starting at 12 noon, at the Paloma Room (formerly the Montebello Inn) in Montebello. Featuring such popular artists as Rocky Padilla, WAR's Sal Rodriguez, Cory Silva, The COMPANY's Ray Carrion, The Paris Escovedo Project, The Nation of Aztlan, the New Voice Band, and many others to be announced.
