After receiving entries from across the country, the National Honey Board and Ser Padres magazine named Carlota Mendez, a resident of Fillmore, Calif., the winner of its "Honey my Way" contest in the meal/snack category and Delmy Reyes, from Des Moines, Iowa; the winner in the creative use category. Carlota and Delmy will receive $1,000 and $500 cash prizes respectively. The recipes were judged based on their creativity, originality and use of 100% pure honey.
Carlota's recipe, "Bolitas de Proteina" ("Protein bites"), is a delicious snack made from honey, peanut butter, oatmeal and sesame seeds, a perfect energy booster for active kids. Delmy's "Limonada Caliente Milagrosa" ("Warm Miracle Lemonade") recipe, a blend of honey, cinnamon, pepper, ginger, lemon and eucalyptus leaves can help soothe an aching throat ÔÇô an all too common ailment during the school year.
The "Honey my Way" contest was part of the National Honey Board's Back to School campaign to encourage parents and kids to learn more about the multiple uses of 100% pure honey, especially as it relates to back to school.
