Trick or treat!
The Satisfaction Band and Frankie Firme rock the night away in Norwalk

What can I say? Halloween came and went with a bang throughout L.A. , and there were parties and events throughout the Land of 1000 Dances that had a lot of happy kids, big young and old, munching a lot of candy the next day before going to church.

Sadly, there weren't as many kids going door to door in my neighborhood as last year, but on the good side, I gave out some righteous handfuls of confection to all who rang my doorbell before 8:30 pm, especially the toddlers, some toting bags almost as big as them...GOD bless their little souls...I hooked them little guys and gals up!
...but after 8:30 pm, I got on the road just in time to host & MC the Halloween Bash at the Norwalk Guesthouse Sash Lounge, featuring the one & only SATISFACTION Band, and if you weren't there, you missed a righteous party that passed the midnight hour almost as good as New Year's.
To a packed and standing room-only crowd, this was the place for Saturday night!
With yours truly, 99% of the crowd, and the band all in costume, the party was on from the very first song, and the dance floor stayed packed all night long. Even the bartenders & waitresses got into the spirit...and some of them grandma's and grandpa's in the crowd were looking pretty good !
Sometimes teased as the "Chicano Rick James" for his wild stage antics and soulful singing voice, lead singer Robert Benavides was simply in a Rick James zone of his own in a 2 foot wide Afro-wig (yep! THAT big!) and glittering 1970's disco king shirt, as he gave up one of his better singing performances of the year.
Robert & his lovely wife were even chosen as finalists in the costume contest!
(Talk about getting into the spirit!)
Rastafarian "Cool Mon" percussionist & sax man Jimmy Silva was in the zone, along with "Dr. Love" drummer Ralph Orosco III, "Pirate Homies" guitarist Chris Reserva & bassist Edgar Salas, co lead singer Rita " Nun of that" in-habit Melendrez, and keyboardist John Lopez were all on the mark tonight , once again proving why they are still one of the hottest & busiest club circuit bands in the Land of 1000 Dances, with Chris 'Lil Santana" Reserva simply WOW-ING the crowd as he jumped out onto the dance floor while playing some killer lead guitar rifts .
I love when he does that !
Posing as "a dead Zoot Suiter from the past", I was honored to also serve a judge in the $400.00 1st place costume contest, and man, this night saw some of the most original, some VERY sexy, and some just outlandish costumes you ever saw! ...proving that adults can still have MORE fun than kids during this pinche economy when the mood, music, and occasion calls for it!
Instead of the usual bland calling up of contestants one at a time, the SATISFACTION Band and I got into a little "tighten up" music number, called up all contest finalists on the dance floor one at a time, and had them put on a 30 second dance routine ...Boo-Ya! The crowd went simply wild!
There was a sexy nurse, a disturbed priest (complete with devil horns and fangs), a 1970's Afro wearing glittering disco couple, a brain surgery patient off the table too soon, a devilish cannibal chef with fresh body parts in a crate, a VERY sexy cat woman, a light glittering witch (glowing fangs and all), and a sexy 1920's grandma who STILL had her moves !
But the winner of the night was a muscular young man by the name of Lupe, who was probably one of the youngest guys in the house, who had his face & body completely painted in blue while wearing some sparkling white stretch pants, fluffy gloves and wig...and did a marvelous bump & grind dance as .....a Smurf!
The crowd was all in the mood and wildly cheered him onto victory and $400.00...and a couple of VERY sexy contestants who came in after the picking of finalists were given some honorable mention but were a little late to get in on the contest action...sorry, girls...but we'll do it all again next year!
Hope you all had a great Halloween!....oh yeah, hope your kids did too !
