Thank You, All, From Your Brothers in New Voice
To all of you whom attended, and gave so graciously, at the Pete Perez Memorial Benefit Concert
Published on LatinoLA: November 17, 2009
On behalf of Rocky Padilla,The New Voice Band, and the family of Pete Perez, we offer our most sincerest thanks to all of you whom attended, and gave so graciously, at the Pete Perez Memorial Benefit Concert this past Sunday.
The house was packed an hour and a half before the first note was played. Seven hundred people flowed through the Paloma Room throughout the day, so many of whom gave generously with raffle purchases and cash donations.
La Raza certainly answered the call when the word spread of this memorable event. Tremendous efforts were made by many to promote this special tribute using every method available throughout the Land of 1000 Dances.
Hand bills were posted in hundreds of taco stands and panaderias from Chula Vista to Palmdale. Those with influence to mass media, such as Frankie Firme & THEE Mr. Duran, worked their considerable magic.
On the entertainment side Rocky Padilla, Cory Silva and Ray Carrion brought together a once-in a lifetime lineup that has spanned five decades of Chicano music.
Of course, we were humbled to participate with such legendary artists and represent the contemporary end of the time spectrum.
Phil Reyes and his Souvenir Entertainment vatos must also be commended for overcoming significant building electrical distribution challenges to stabilize the fantastic sound and lighting systems.
And of course, we must thank our brother J-Rod, Mr. Jim Rodriguez, for adding his abundant guitar talents to the New Voice set. J-Rod is currently in the studio recording his latest solo album. He will drop the first single on iTunes very soon, and of course we will let you know. You can keep tabs on Jim's progress at http://www.myspace.com/jrodguitarplayer.
The family of Pete Perez has asked Rocky Padilla and us to convey their deepest gratitude and appreciation to you in the New Voice familia whom participated, expressed your condolences, and demonstrated overwhelming generosity love to the them during this most difficult time.
Rocky will be organizing performances dedicated to Pete throughout the coming months, and we ask that you check the website for scheduling additions in your barrio.
The concert was excellent therapy for the many friends and family of this most beloved gentleman of the people, brother Pete Perez. Tears of sorrow gave way to gritos of joy and remembrance.
...a more fitting celebration of Pete's passions: his love for life, family, friends and music, could not have been made more possible.

Ray's Downtown Deli has been a favorite San Bernardino eatery for as long as can be remembered. The quality and wide selection of traditional urban delicatessen offerings can only be matched by the hospitality and service which is second to none. The cozy atmosphere, outstanding food, & good entertainment keep folks coming to Ray's.
Prayer Request for Owen 'Enrique' Garcia
We respectfully remind you, that tragedy has touched another of our musical brothers and his family. The future son-in-law of Westside Crew saxophonist, Rudy Gapasin, was struckby a cab on November 7th, with his friend Carlos. Carlos was able to walk out of the hospital the next day. However, Owen has suffered substantial brain trauma and remains in critical condition at UCLA in an induced coma to relive swelling in the brain. Rudy and his wife Debbie report that Owen is strong and fighting and they want to get the word out that he is in need of many prayers along with his loving fianc?® Leanna. As Owen will be out of work for some time, we ask that you pitch in with forthcoming fund raising efforts to be announced.
