Rick Najera will perform his latest comedy, 'Diary of a Dad Man' as part of the Laugh out Loud Comedy Festival being taped for Showtime on Friday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m. The comedy festival runs December 9-12 at El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, with more than 38 comedians performing.
Najera, an award-winning actor-writer-director-producer and noted playwright with credits in film, television and theatre (including Broadway) will be performing his recognized new live stage comedy, Diary of a Dad Man, a comedy about fatherhood, parenthood and family life from a Latino perspective. The show, directed for stage by Gary Blumsack, explores life as "Hollywood Guy" turned "Daddy Guy", with the voice of his Mexican Dad ringing in his head.
"There is one thing that fatherhood hasn't changed in Najera: His ability to land a well-timed punchline. Diary of a Dad Man, which mixes monologue and stand-up and is directed by Gary Blumsack, is funny but more poignant than anything we've seen from Najera before," states Theatre Jones critic, Mark Lowry.
"For Latinos who love his shows Latinologues and Buford Gomez, there's still plenty of material about life as a Mexican in this country--and even a bit of Mexican history, with amusing riffs on the Spanish conquerors and the Alamo. Although, even he concedes that his Mexican-American experience is now quite different, given that he pays for his kids to attend Montessori school and $75 per trout when he takes his son fishing at a stock tank in Malibu."
