Multiple award winning Guatemalan filmmaker Julio Ponce Palmieri was featured in the Contemporary section of the XXIV Festival Del Cinema Latino Americano in Trieste, Italy. This amazing spotlight showcased eight of his movies in Trieste, Italy and marks the first time that a filmmaker from Guatemala has been a part of this festival.
The films were selected by Mr. Rodrigo Diaz, the director of the festival, which celebrated its 24th edition during the dates of October 24 to November 1st, 2009.
Ranging from genres such as spiritual dramas to thrillers, the movies presented at this prestigious European festival were the short films titled Judgement, Myth of the Cave, It!, Master Plan, Beginnings, Perspective.
Also included in the programming was the feature film titled Rabid Rage, a suspenseful thriller that was filmed on location in the northern woods of Canada. Also presented was the Guatemalan short film titled Encrucijada (Crossoroads), a touching spiritual drama that deals with the injustices of living in a third world country. Encrucijada is Julio's first Spanish speaking production and was filmed in his birth country in May of 2009.
The section dedicated to Julio Ponce Palmieri has been properly named "A Guatemalan in Canada", honouring both his birth roots and also the country were he lives, as he resides in the multi-cultural city of Toronto.
