KCET has begun to broadcast the animated preschool series SID THE SCIENCE KID in Spanish, daily at 6:30 a.m. This initiative allows the station to build upon its commitment and long history of serving Latino communities in its broadcast region of 11 counties throughout Southern and Central California. SID THE SCIENCE KID, co-produced by The Jim Henson Company and KCET, broadcasts daily (9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.).

SID THE SCIENCE KID EN ESPA?ćOL joins KCET's daily morning block of children's programming and follows Los Ni??os en Su Casa, the Emmy?« Award-winning program for parents and caregivers of young children. SID THE SCIENCE KID EN ESPA?ćOL features the Spanish-language versions of all 41 of your favorite SID THE SCIENCE KID episodes. In addition to broadcast, KCET will integrate SID THE SCIENCE KID EN ESPA?ćOL into the existing bilingual outreach workshops taking place nationwide.

"SID THE SCIENCE KID EN ESPA?ćOL is an ideal project for KCET as we look to inspire children from diverse backgrounds to discover and become engaged in the world of science," says Joyce Campbell, KCET Vice President of Education and Children's Programming. "We are thrilled with the opportunity to work with The Jim Henson Company to continue our commitment to providing engaging, educational content to kids in all segments of our viewing audience."

SID THE SCIENCE KID EN ESPA?ćOL promotes exploration and science readiness in a kid-friendly way. Sid explores the world of science with the help of his friends and family and encourages viewers to explore and ask questions about the world around them. The show's energetic and inquisitive preschool star starts each episode with a new question ("Why are my shoes shrinking?" "Why do bananas get mushy?") and embarks on a fun-filled day of finding answers.

Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company says, "We know that our young viewers today will be the scientists of the future and working with KCET to present SID THE SCIENCE KID EN ESPANOL continues our collaborative efforts to get kids everywhere excited about science learning."

The SID THE SCIENCE KID educational outreach training workshops provide parents and care providers of preschool children with the confidence, knowledge and resources they need to nurture and guide their children's science learning. To date, more than one-third of the national SID THE SCIENCE KID trainings have been conducted in Spanish.

"First 5 California strives to reach all California children with programs and services that will help ensure their readiness for school," says First 5 California Executive Director Kris Perry. "SID THE SCIENCE KID EN ESPA?ćOL is one more example of our commitment to reach California's diverse populations with valuable information to help them succeed in school and in life."

Episodes including "My Shrinking Shoes" and "Getting a Shot: You Can Do It," as well as a selection of songs, live action experiments and bilingual educational resources are available at kcet.org/sidenespanol.

"Our company supports education initiatives at all levels of our educational system, especially in diverse communities. So it is only natural that we would invest in programs like SID THE SCIENCE KID because it focuses on inspiring the curiosity in all children. Science and math literacy helps develop the critical skills needed for the 21st Century workforce - that's these kids!" says Anne Roosevelt, Vice President, Boeing Global Corporate Citizenship.
