As a new writer for LatinoLA.com. I would like to introduce myself and let you all know a little bit about who I am.
My name is Wendy Solorio. I was born and raised in the great city of Los Angeles. I grew up in many cities all over the L.A. County, including Huntington Park and Paramount.
Like all of you, I have a story. People call my story inspirational. Others may see it as tragic, unfair, or unfortunate. I see it as the slap in the face that I so desperately needed to change my life for the better.
I was diagnosed with bone cancer back in 2004 at the age of 19. Over the years, I've lost a leg and a lung to this disease.
Today, I devote the majority of my time telling my story at events to those who wish to hear it. I am currently the Survivor Chairperson for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Paramount.
Aside from my volunteer work, I am a Journalism major at Cerritos Community College and currently write for the school paper.
My goal is to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, and ultimately have my own television show that focuses on my passion: Rock and Roll.
For now, I'm extremely excited to be contributing my time to LatinoLA. I look forward to exploring all that is going on within the Latino community. Because like my own story, I know there are countless stories out there that need to be told.
From music, to education, to health, I'm here to explore it all and share it with you.
