The spiritual drama from Guatemala titled "Encrucijada" ("Crossroads") has been making waves around the film festival circuit and due to that, it has been picked up for world wide distribution by Ouat Media in Toronto.
Written and directed by multiple award winning Guatemalan filmmaker Julio Ponce Palmieri and starring Fernando Galvez Moscoso and Manolo Gallardo Rubio, "Encrucijada" tells the story of a young man from Guatemala who has been a lifetime victim of the social injustices in that country. Due to that struggle, he loses his faith and decides to go into a church not to confess the sins he has committed but those sins he will be committing, literally driving him into a spiritual
Running 13 minutes, this impacting short film was filmed in May of 2009 entirely on location, filming in its majority at the Santa Catalina Church in the Historical Centre of Guatemala City. In addition, the film has a very powerful scene which was filmed in the visually famous General Cemetery, complementing a storyline that delivers a breathtaking positive message of faith, understanding and hope.
"Encrucijada" has been named "Official Selection" at the following film festivals: 2009 Orlando Hispanic Film Festival, 2009 Festival Del Cinema Latino Americano de Trieste, 2009 Montezuma International Film Festival, 2009 Fiestas de Octubre Festival Icaro, 2009 Queens International Film Festival and the 2009 Festival Du Cinema du Paris. In addition of being presented in Florida, Italy, France, Costa Rica, Guatemala and New York, the Guatemalan short film is already being presented in Guatemala through cable with the TVO Telecom company and its main television channel TVO Vive, which also transmits the rest of Julio Ponce Palmieri's short films.
