News from the Brown Side of Town

Orale, Mi Gente! Springtime 2010 has sure been good to me !

After a brief hiatus from just about EVERYTHING, I'm back on the set, cruisin' the block, and stepping out with the Gente again !

The weather is good, the economy STILL isn't better, but it's livable, most of our guys are out of Iraq, and it looks like our guys in Afghanistan are getting things under control and may be coming home sooner than expected‘«™so things are looking up!

Elections are coming up, and we will have a chance and privilege to vote the greedy pendejo politicians that enriched themselves while screwing up our economy OUT of office !....OOooh! I can't wait to see some of them at the end of the unemployment line!!!

What better way to celebrate life than with good music, good times, and good people?

Starting off the month of May, I was honored to host & DJ a pre-Mother's Day bash at the San Fernando American Legion Post 176, sponsored by the Women's auxiliary. With a recent change in management , membership, and policies, the crowds that once shied away are coming back, and the San Fernando faithful are out getting their boogie on!

Friday night happy hour with entertainment, and events with live bands are in the mix.
Congratulations to newly elected Post Commander Sammy "Sam I Am" Castrellon, one proud Marine! For more info: 818-621-3920.

The San Fernando Marine Corps League has also returned to their original home, and bring back the popular "Friday Night at the Legion" dances that sees the BAG OF TRICKS Band coming in June, The COMPANY Band coming in August , and more events to be announced. ALL present, former, retired, and reserve Marines & FMF Navy Corpsmen are invited to join! For more info: (818) 599-2719 or visit: www.sfvd1277.org.

The following week, I was honored to MC a fundraiser event at the PALOMA Room in Montebello sponsored by Midnight Productions featuring LiL' WILLIE G, CORY SILVA & AFTER DARK w/special guest vocalist KEITH SILVA, LOUIE PARRA & the MAD LATINS, comedian ARMANDO COSIO, ROCKY PADILLA & his band, plus DJ's Big Daddy Ruben and Little Richie T. Assisting the family of Nicholas Trejo, an 11 year old cancer survivor who is a shining example of how to fight & beat the odds. Willie, Cory, Keith, Louie, Armando, Rocky, Big Daddy and Ritchie gave it their all, and a great dinner was had to boot, provided by the E.L.A. Mom's Club‘«™.a true night of love and entertainment in the heart of Aztlan.

Cory Silva has announced that in addition to more live bands & entertainment, the restaurant has re-opened, offering Aztlan style cuisine. For more info, contact Cory at: cory_silva@yahoo.com.

The next day, it was a drive in the beautiful Southern California sunshine up to Fillmore, where BECKY CORDOVA & The COMPANY Band headlined the day's festivities at the Filmore Family Fair & Festival. Looking absolutely gorgeous, Becky (aka the "Diamond of the Valley") & Co. came out with both barrels blasting, giving up hot Latin Soul, Oldies, Disco, R&B, Cumbias , and classic rock & roll, with Becky smiling, dancing, singing her heart out and stealing hearts as usual. Guitarist Ray Carrion was in a zone by himself, and as a standing member of EL CHICANO, introduced a touching tribute to Bobby Espinosa, as keyboardist Ray Cordova did us all the honor of playing a beautiful Hammond organ tribute of "Viva Tirado" as a large crowd filled the open courtyard that was now a dance floor‘«™.and the party was on ! Great job, guys!

New music coming up the pipe by The Salas Brothers, Pepe Marquez, and Larry Lange & the Lonely Knight band from Texas will soon be heard on EastLARevue.com, ChicanoExpress.com , QVORadio.com, and of course the Lost Memories Radio Show at djchentemrog.com ~ playing nothing but the best music in Aztlan, heard coast to coast and around the World.

This Sunday, May 30th, East LA Revue Radio's popular Latin Jazz DJ extraordinaire Chico Manqueros hosts the JOE BATAAN West Coast return concert at the GALAXY THEATER in Santa Ana. Tickets going fast, for more info: www.eastLArevue.com or e-mail : janie.chavez1@verizon.net ~ it's gonna be a party with the "King of Latin Soul". Brought to you by East L.A. This past Sunday, I was privileged to share MC duties with the incomparable THEE MR. DURAN, as we hosted a tribute concert for Chicano music artist "Danny Boy" Padilla, brother of Rocky Padilla, at the A MI HACIENDA Grand ballroom in Pico Rivera. Featuring hot live music by SOTO, SANGRIA, , NEW VOICE, the L.A. MAMBO COMBO, CORY SILVA, ROCKY PADILLA, PEPE MARQUEZ, DJ Big Daddy RUBEN , and others, plus a great routine by Comedian GILBERT ESQUIVEL, made it a marvelous show, with Danny Padilla getting up on stage and performing his heart out, proving that there IS life after surviving cancer ! YOU GO, Danny Boy! Unfortunately, Brenton Wood had to leave early due to personal matters, but he promises to "make it up" to his fans .

Dimelo Record's salsa recording artist CHINO ESPINOSA Y los DUENOS DEL SOL, perform May 28th at the Coco Palm in Pomona, May 29th at the Grenada in Alhambra, and June 4th at the Whittier Radisson Hotel prior to leaving on a summer European tour. Comedian Gilbert Esquivel, the West Coast Prince of Chicano Comedy will be putting on one of his famed East Side Music & Comedy Revue Shows on Friday, June 4th, at the Hope Theater in San Fernando . Joining him will be the powerful & popular SATISFACTION Band , along with comedians Darren Carter, Justin Rivera, and Felipe Esparza. Show stars at 8:30pm, tickets on sale now at: 310-518-2229.

And speaking of my good friends the SATISFACTION Band, after a nice brief springtime concert tour, they will be returning to some of their old haunts like the Guesthouse in Norwalk and the Lakewood Hop‘«™and summer's looking good, too! Always the best in live music & dancing wherever they perform, check out: www.satisfactionband.com .

Featuring popular live bands & music, popular stand up comedians, and the great east side cuisine de Aztlan offered by Cory Silva & staff. For more info: cory_silva@yahoo.com.

Another one of southern Califa's hot Chicano music groups, the SOUL PURSUIT Band, perform June 4th at Maggie's Pub in Santa Fe Springs, and June 5th at the Annual Brea Fest, starting at 3:30pm. Also, there's rumors of an upcoming "Soul Pursuit Cruise". For more info: www.soulpursuitband.com or e-mail: fredmags54@yahoo.com

Comedian Rudy Moreno is cracking people up all over L.A. with upcoming shows at The Pasadena Ice House, The taste of Texas in Covina, and the Guesthouse in Norwalk. Always a great show, tickle your funnybone at: www.rudymoreno.com.

Orale! That's it for now‘«™glad to be back, and I'll see you all on the roads & Boulevards of Aztlan !
