Job Announcement: Lead Health Educator in HIV Prevention Field


POSITION: Lead Health Educator/Promotora

REPORTS TO: Director of HIV Prevention Services

SALARY RANGE: Staring salary based on experience, qualification, and budget.
(100% time 40 hours per week)

Under the direction of the program director, the lead health educator is responsible for conducting HIV/AIDS Health Education/Risk Reduction Prevention with HIV Testing Counseling and Referral services women and their partners at at-risk.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provide targeted HIV/AIDS Health Education/Risk Reduction services
Provide HIV counseling and testing referral services.
Assisting with the 12-hour HIV/STD's, prevention training workshops
Responsible for the on-going recruitment and follow-up to women interested in participating in the Promotora Project.
Will assist the community Promotora with scheduling presentations in her community and maintain contact and monitor program participation
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with groups and AIDS comprehensive organizations, drug and alcohol agencies, churches, community centers and women's service agencies, etc.
Develop monthly schedules for HIV prevention trainings and outreach sites
Attends and participates in ELAWC trainings, community and staff meetings, as scheduled
Prepares monthly reports and data collection as required by the funding source
Develops behavior change plans with women during the training session


Excellent written and oral communication skills; well-organized, attention to detail, and able to meet deadlines; flexibility and ability to work on multiple tasks.
Commitment to prevention; willingness to take on administrative responsibilities and tasks
Experience with recruitment and supervision of volunteers
Ability to effectively present information to individuals and public groups
Requires high level of concentration, ability to handle frequent changes and meet deadlines


College degree or equivalent experience in social services, women's health services, outreach and prevention education or two (2) years equivalent experience
Experience working with women and their partners at-risk
Current HIV/AIDS and STI's knowledge and certification as an HIV testing counselor
Effective oral and written communication skills
Working knowledge of word and spreadsheet (MS Excel) programs
Current California driver license and ability to drive to program sites
Ability to work 40 hours a week with some evenings and weekends as needed

Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Experience providing harm reduction counseling for persons at risk of HIV infection.
