And My Favorite Is...

It began well over two decades ago in the small town of Guasave on Mexico's Pacific Coast. The year was 1975, and Juan Francisco "Pancho" Ochoa opened his first roadside chicken stand. He named it El Pollo Loco, pronounced "L-Po-yo Lo-co" and Spanish for "The Crazy Chicken." Pancho began serving chicken the same way his mother did -- hand-marinated in an old family recipe featuring special herbs, spices and citrus juices, and then carefully flame-broiled to perfection. The restaurant quickly became a local favorite.

News of El Pollo Loco spread rapidly throughout Northern Mexico. By 1979, Pancho's family and friends had opened 85 restaurants in 20 Northern Mexico cities. Shortly thereafter, news of the delicious marinated chicken traveled across the border into the United States. In 1980, customers lined up around the block as the first American El Pollo Loco opened on Alvarado Street in Los Angeles. The rest is history.

Through the years, El Pollo Loco has continued to introduce innovative new menu items to meet the diverse tastes of of today's busy families. We all have our favorites, as you can see from the real-life testimonials from some of our Amigos de LatinoLA, who were each rewarded with an opportunity to try El Pollo Loco's new Pollo Salads: the Chicken Caeser and the Chicken Fiesta.
