The NLBWA-LA Business Management Academy provides minority women business owners who have been in business for two or more years with step-by-step "how to" training on making the transition to an effective business manager and a successful small business owner. The program is a six-week intensive executive type program, which included courses in Business Management, Marketing, Social Media, Business Best Practices, Business Finance, Business Development and How to communicate effectively in Writing and Verbally. A total of 30-40 students are expected to successfully complete the Academy.
As part of the six-week course students receive homework assignments called "Tools for Success Package" which includes the development of their elevator speech, professional biography, capabilities page and a short business plan. A panel will evaluate the Tools for Success package submitted by the students; three of the best packages will each receive a $500 business grant. Students will also receive a professional headshot.
The generosity of our sponsors Verizon and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will enable NLBWA-LA to offer scholarships and extend its outreach to recruit students through various professional non-profit organizations and local chamber of commerce.
