Scandals:

Jenni Rivera's brother, Juan Rivera, punched a concert goer on stage in Guanajuato after he threw a beer can at one of her musicians.

Jennifer Lopez was granted a restraining order against Claudia Vazquez, ex-husband Ojani Noa's girlfriend. A Los Angeles judge also temporarily blocked Vazquez' ability to release the proposed documentary about Noa and Lopez' marriage using private home videos of the former couple.

A U.S. judge rejected an attempt by Chiquita to halt multi-million dollar compensation cases by thousands of Colombians claiming that they or their relatives were tortured or killed by paramilitary groups who were paid off by the Chiquita company to allegedly protect their employees.

Natural Occurrences:

The eruption of Chile's Puyehue volcano prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents in Southern Chile, releasing a huge cloud of ash that caused the cancellations of flights earlier this week and blanketed surrounding areas.

Politics:

Left wing former army commander Ollanta Humala was elected as President of Peru over the weekend in a close race with Keiko Fujimori, daughter of jailed former President Albert Fujimori. Humala will take office on July 28th.

Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is in a twitter war with Sean Penn over Penn's defense of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. In a tweet to Penn, Guillen suggests "Sean Penn if you love Venezuela please move to Venezuela for a year, but rent a house in Guarenas or Guatire to see how long you last clown".

The Supreme Court turned down an appeal from a conservative immigration law group challenging California's policy of allowing undocumented immigrants who have graduated from in-state high schools the right to reduced in-state tuition. The court upheld the policy because the tuition benefit hinged on the student's high school graduation, not his or her residency.

Crime:

Former Tijuana mayor Jorge Hank Rhon was detained on charges of illegal weapons possession last week after Mexican troops raided his home and found 88 guns.

Former Nuestra Belleza Latina contestant Karen Virginia Blanco was shot to death along with her boyfriend in Venezulea last week as they left a party in Maracaibo.

Chayanne was robbed after a show in Cancun when his team returned to the hotel and discovered that two laptops and $9000 were missing.

Campaigns:

Nike unveiled its new "The Chosen" global 'Just Do It' campaign which includes a film featuring skater Paul Rodriguez and others. Nike 6.0 Facebook

Spanish travel company Viajes el Corte Ingles has selected Santa Cruz Communications as its U.S. Hispanic agency of record in anticipation of the opening of its U.S. headquarters in Miami and the launch of TripCruises.com.

NAMIC (the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications) announced its call for entries for the Excellence in Multi-cultural Marketing Awards. Entries can be submitted online at http://emmacompetition.com and winners will be announced at the NAMIC Conference in October.

A & E:

The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) takes place August 15-21st in New York City.

Alexa Vega won an MTV Movie Award for Best Latin Actor for her role in "From Prada to Nada".

mun2 will premiere its new series "Beauties & the Boss" on Sunday, June 19th at 9 PM ET. The series goes inside the life of Monica Weitzel, CEO of Assorted Flavors Agency, a promotional modeling agency.

Univision 62's "Premios Texas" will take place on August 11th in Austin.

Sports:

Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer to win the French Open.

Famed acrobats Nik Wallenda and his mother, Delilah Wallenda, commemorated the death of Nik's great-grandfather Karl Wallenda in Puerto Rico over the weekend by walking between two towers at a seaside resort where Karl was killed while attempting the stunt in 1978.
