If you haven't made your after-work and/or dinner plans this first day of a fourth of July weekend, make it down to one of the Loteria Grill's three locations.
Today, Loteria turns nine, offering half price margaritas, micheladas, sangri?¡a and beer at their locations in Hollywood and Studio City. If you're closer to mid-town L.A., their Farmers Market location is offering an all-day special Plato Botanero.
I was one day early...last night I took my family and some new friends down to their Hollywood location. All eight of us sat at the outdoor patio and dined on some delicious food, washed down by refreshing drinks.
Our out-of-town guests, not familiar with much Mexican food, were surprised by the selection, while those of us who had been to either their Farmers Market or Hollywood location before knew what to expect ... a wide range of dishes from simple tacos and sopes to arrechera steak and a spicy shrimp dish.
The enchiladas suizas were particularly tasty, said our guests, and my daughter's sope de pollo en mole was rich and flavorful.
When we first sat down, founder and chef Jimmy Shaw came to greet us. I've known Jimmy since his days in advertising and have been fortunate to experience his catering at company functions. He had his chicharr??n de Queso sent over, and it was a sublime experience.
Someday we'll do a full-on review of Loter?¡a Grill, but for now, I urge you to stop on by tonight, enjoy the half price drinks and sample some great food...I have an urge for the calabacitas right about now!
