Talent to the Maxx judges have selected the 30 teen semi-finalists who will perform their extraordinary talents at the Grand Finale event on May 17, 2003 at the Orpheum Theatre.
The official list of Talent to the MAXX semi-finalists will be released on May 12, 2003.
Talent To The Maxx was developed to inspire today?s Latino youth and open doors in the areas of education, business and the entertainment industry. The program strives to encourage teens to pursue higher education and reach for success.
In addition, this unique talent search recognizes and promotes the value of bilingualism. ?T.J. Maxx recognizes that the ability to speak both English and Spanish is a talent in and-of itself,? said Mart?n Llorens, T.J. Maxx Spokesperson. ?Fluency in two languages provides an advantage for today?s youth entering the workforce.?
Teens between 13 and 18 years old submitted their video entries at participating T.J. Maxx stores throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. Each participant was required to display their personality, talent and ability to speak fluent English and Spanish. Each entry was reviewed and evaluated by a panel of judges comprised of representatives from T.J. Maxx, LATV, Super Estrella, Patricia Sturla Studio, Telemundo, Fashion Club, Al Borde, La Opini?n, Exc?lsior and the Orange County Register.
?We are extremely pleased with the caliber of talent demonstrated by our semi-finalists,? added Llorens. ?We recognize their enthusiasm and are truly impressed with their performance, poise and fluency in both English and Spanish.?
The 30 semi-finalists will showcase their talents including singing, dancing, modeling and impersonation on the Orpheum Theatre stage. A panel of judges will evaluate each contestant on stage presence and talent. The judges will then select the top 10 finalists who will demonstrate their proficiency in English and Spanish through a series of questions and answers. The interview category of the contest is critical in selecting the top three (3) grand prize winners.
The event will be co-hosted by energetic LATV personality, Tricia Cruz and T.J. Maxx Spokesperson Mart?n Llorens. The evening will be filled with surprise celebrity appearances and a performance by Latina singing sensation, Joy Enriquez (pictured), who will ?Shake up the Party? with her high energy music.
Each of the 30 semi-finalists will receive a prize package and compete for several great prizes including educational savings bonds, T.J. Maxx gift certificates, Patricia Sturla Studio ?Elite Program? modeling and acting scholarship, trips to the East Coast to participate in a T.J. Maxx photo shoot, gift certificates to Carlton Hair International and paid tuition to FIDM?s summer program, ?Four Days of Fashion? as well as many media prize packages.
