Bertha and her two brothers were born and raised in East Los Angeles, California. Her parents and brothers were very instrumental in helping Bertha chose careers in the music and medical professions.

She attended Los Angeles County Medical School for her Registered Nurse certification and then continued her study to achieve the Nurse Practitioner license/practice since 1984. She has also pursued a career as a vocalist and has recorded with The Eastside Connection, The Chico Band, and for the movie soundtrack to "Zoot Suit".

Bertha was married to Ruben Hernandez, who was also a recording artist. They had two children, Vanessa and Lawrence. Ms. Bertha is currently performing with The Chico Band in the greater Southern California area. They have four music CDs that we highly recommend.

She has a message for our youth, to stay in school and continue to study and educate yourselves for your future and for your families. At the conclusion of this interview, we included two songs with Bertha on lead vocals playing "Carnival" with the Chico Band and "Sunny" with Ruben Hernandez on lead vocal and Bertha on background.
